Welcome to Miller Time

I lost count of the number of Braves fans who over the weekend had already dismissed the Jason Heyward for Shelby Miller trade as horrible. One bad start (1/3 of an inning) by Miller and the world was about to end. I tweeted 'how many of you remember Julio Teheran's disastrous spring debut two years ago?' Turns out, he's been pretty good.

Of course the detractors look at Miller's 2014 campaign and say, "See, see?!!!" Well, his first half certainly was off from his great rookie season the year before last. But his strong second half last year gives hope for going into the 2015 season.

I'm going to play the role of an optimist and stick with my original opinion after Atlanta acquired the 24 year-old. He's going to be our Adam Wainwright- the future top of the rotation guy who we (or in this case, St. Louis) traded for a player (Heyward) similar to the one dealt for Wainwright (JD Drew).

As far as this card of a former Card, I'm glad Topps included Shelby in his new digs because about half the team set features players Atlanta traded this offseason.

Hopefully Shelby's future starts will bring a calming effect to those freaked out fans. Relax, people. It's Miller Time.

  1. The big concern with Miller is that drop in K/9 last year over the previous year -- and the corresponding jump the wrong way in BB/9 as well. Hopefully, he'll be fine.

    1. Yes, there was that- although I believe it improved the second half. I could be mistaken, though.
