Jesse Gonder came over from the Mets in a July, 1965 trade for outfielder Gary Kolb. The catcher appeared in thirty-one games over the rest of the season for the Braves, providing the team some depth behind starter Joe Torre. The light-hitting lefty provided little offense for the team, though, hitting only .151 in limited at-bats (53).
Following the season, the Braves lost the veteran catcher to the Pirates in the Rule 5 Draft.
His cardboard appearance in 1965 was as a member of the Mets-the team which Gonder had his greatest success with during his 8 year big league career.
